August 22, 2009, Welcoming Steve Bug For Poker Flat’s Ten Year
Anniversary
Avaland celebrates its fifth year as one of the nation’s most
celebrated club nights on August 22, 2009. Befitting the anniversary
of a club that has drawn international recognition for its continued
innovation and advancement of dance music, the celebrations will be
shared with an artist and a label that hold dear a similar creed.
Joining Avaland for its birthday celebrations will be one of dance
music’s true greats, label owner and long serving German
tastemaker, Steve Bug, who will also be celebrating the ten-year
anniversary of his esteemed Poker Flat label.
Poker Flat label residents Adultnapper, Dan Berkson and James What
(Live) will join Steve Bug on the bill. Avaland residents Droog will
open the main-room proceedings with Lee Foss hosting the Honey
Lounge.
Since its inception five years ago Avaland has been a fixture in North
America’s dance music landscape. A West Coast beacon for the very
best and most bleeding-edge DJs, acts and producers, Avaland has
showcased techno, house, breaks, trance and more as it strives to
deliver an unmatched nightlife experience. Singled out by MixMag, LA
Weekly, LA Times and more for its commitment to bringing the
freshest acts, in 2008 Resident Advisor named the club one of its top
10 in the world for atmosphere and DJ Mag named Avalon one of its
top 40 global clubs in 2009.
Remembering the future, Avaland’s fifth year anniversary will
celebrate a time in which velvet ropes and bottle service did not
define a night of dancing; The debauchery and freedom of 70s
Hollywood. Forget flared pants and disco, Avalandcelebrates a period
and a place in which people of all cultures came together on the
dancefloor, losing themselves to music and revelry. This was late-
night hedonism, dancefloors were a place where you could forget the
working week in a transcendent night-life experience. It’s a mantra
many clubs seem to have forgotten today, Avaland encourages you
all to remember the future.
Who better to celebrate and recreate this zeitgeist, than Steve Bug.
An ignorer of trends, a musical visionary and a breaker of
boundaries, Bug has been at the vanguard of electronic music since
he first started DJing after-hour parties in Ibiza in 1991. Since then
his career has taken him across the globe, playing at dance music’s
most esteemed events, yet he has never allowed himself to wallow in
a comfort zone. NME said that in buying his new album,
‘Collaboratory’ released last month you were choosing, ‘evolution
over inertia… excitement and feeling over death.â€
