Those bad boys from Brazil, DJ True and Miller Cruz, are back with
another installment of ALMA (All for the Love of Music & Art) and this
is a very festive one. Producer, Joann ‘Muzikbutrfly’ Jimenez and
resident dj Miller Cruz will be celebrating their birthdays with a
Haitian touch, as very special guest dj Jephte Guillaume will be
blessing the decks and accompanying him are members of his Tet
Kale Orchestra on the percussive side.
Born in Haiti, but uprooted to Brooklyn, Jephte’s music transforms
Vodun spirituality and African ancestry into something universally
understood. His Brazilian influences have always been evident in his
compositions For Spiritual Life, especially in his contributions to “Trip
do Brasil 1 & 2†(Sony), and in the studio he has become a sought-
after bassist and multi-instrumentalist by the likes of Sting, Mary J.
Blige, Toni Braxton, Wyclef Jean, Slick Rick, and Glen Scott (to name
just a few). Jephte’s critically acclaimed debut album “Voyage of
Dreams” on his label, Tet Kale Records, was released to universal
praise and audiences worldwide have been swept away by his dj
sets.
This leaves us all in store for another ALMA traditional, out-of-this
world kinda night that will surely keep the groovesters jumpin’ to the
wee hours of the morning. You don’t have to be Brazilian to drink and
dance like one, and at this celebration . . . you’ll be expected to.
