ALMA NYC’s “Neo-Brasilian Fusion” returns with a monthly celebration

like no other with esteemed guests Carlos Mena and Daniel Moreno.

If you haven’t heard the name Carlos Mena yet, you can’t really call

yourself “underground”. This Poet/DJ/Producer, all-around-artist has

rocked the mic and dancefloors for 20+ years. His current Afro-

Cuban Bata Exploration hails contributions from Djinji Brown, Mark

deClive Lowe, DJ Spinna, Vinia Mojica, Wale Oyejide and Latin

Grammy winner, Lazaro Galarraga. All of this alongside Ocha

Records, a music label brought to you by Osunlade and Carlos. The

meeting of this man’s programming skills with percussion virtuoso

Daniel Moreno and resident DJ True, should rival some of ALMA’s best

    events yet.

A prolific Musician, Producer and Composer, Daniel Moreno started

his musical career playing with artists like George Benson and Dr.

Lonnie Smith in Hawaii. He then moved to Brazil where he recorded

the classic album “Es Tamos Juntos” with the Angolan superstar

Waldermar Bastoes featuring legend Chico Buarque and worked with

none other than Joan Donato, Armando Marcal, Sr. and an endless

    number of Brazilian notables.

He’s performed in too many Jazz festivals to mention and has

traveled the world with his own “Speaking in Tones”, collaborating

with everyone from Pharoah Sanders and Les Paul to Roy Haynes

and his “musical conduit” Don Cherry, in Daniel’s own words. In the

House scene, he befriended Joe Claussell and blessed Spiritual Life

with mind-blowing solos for remixes of Nitin Sawhney, Herbie

Hancock, Cassandra Wilson and many of our favorites. His work on

“The RH Factor” album by Roy Hargrove recently got rave reviews

and included artists Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Q-Tip, Stephanie McKay,

    Steve Coleman and many others.

Don’t miss this master percussionist complimenting the sophisticated

selections of very special guest Carlos Mena and DJ True. Joann

Jimenez and Manchildblack, as always, will be as welcoming as the

    Brazilian nature itself. Join in.
