    Axwell featuring Evelyn Thomas

    ‘High Energy’

Chicago diva Evelyn Thomas’ original hit back in 1984 Sold a staggering 7 million singles! Classed as one of the biggest selling singles in the eighties, ‘High Energy’ went to number one in every European territory except UK where it got to No.5. 19 years later, and still championed by many a top jock, the dancefloor classic ‘High Energy’ gets the full rework treatment from incredibly talented producer of all things soulful, Axwell.

The last 18 months have been fantastic for young Swedish producer Axwell. Leading the way with one of last summer’s biggest records was ‘No Reason’, his collaboration with Isabel Fructuoso under the guise of Mambana on the highly respected Soulfuric label. The Mambana follow-up, ‘Libre’ was released in April of this year and is well on the way to becoming just as successful as its predecessor. September 2002 saw Axwell release another dancefloor smash on Soulfuric, under the guise Jetlag with Noel McKoy. At the tail end of last year Axwell recorded a track under his own name – ‘Lead Guitar’ was released by fellow Swede Stonebridge on his Stoney Boy imprint.

More recently Axwell’s mixes have included Afro Angel’s ‘Join Me Brother’ for the UK home of Master’s At Work Album’Our Time Is Coming’, suSu, along with a track under his new guise Starbeach entitled ‘Get Naked’, featuring the vocal talents of D’Empress of Mutiny fame. Others include Deli pres. Demetrius ‘Better Love’ (Nero), Soulsearcher ‘Feelin’ Love’ (Soulfuric) and of course the UK’s No.1 record Room 5 ‘Make Luv’ (Positiva).

Featuring a breakdown more dramatic than Eastenders’ Arthur Fowler and a cataclysmic chorus explosion, ‘High Energy’ comes fuelled with percussive beats, a discotastic bassline and soaring synths with a vocal that can only be described as the epitome of Soulfulness! With the current dance market awash with oh-so-desperate naff covers of eighties hits, Axwell’s glorious rendition arrives as a welcome breath of fresh air. The difference?.. Whack it on your wheels of steel and all will be revealed! I kid ye not, this tune is essential discoteque rockin’ fodder for any jock!

Axwell’s productions are being championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mark Doyle (Hed Kandi), Ben Watt, Graeme Park, Bobby & Steve (Soul Heaven) among many others in the Soulful house fraternity.

‘High Energy’ will be released on August 18th on suSU Records.
