b1 PinkAlthough only 23 years of age Englishmen Cris Barratt is already considered one of the hottest new producers on the block. What makes him really special is his unique blend of sounds, which is not melodic house, minimal, tribal, rock electro or techno, but at the same time it is all of that. Two tracks on this EP are the best reflection of Chris’ “get maximal” approach: he builds the story slowly, upgrades the basic theme bit by bit, then weaves in another leading theme and spices the blend with unexpected small but effective element from the late 90’s. The result of this blending is very rich, warm sound, perfect for the parties somewhere at the seaside. Red on the A-side starts very techy but the plot later evolves into warm Mediterranean story. If played after few darker tracks, distinctive flanger on the middles and seductive Balearic piano work perfectly as the morning uplifter. Pink on the B-side is a bit darker, stripped down, although far away from just another minimal sound. This organized chaos works almost the same as Red, but it will get more attention on the smaller dance floors.
