    DJ death match is a monthly showdown where the worlds best DJ’s/clubs/record shops/labels/bands and radio stations are invited to step up to the decks and compete against their opponent in a back 2 back turntable frenzy.

    Grant Nelson • Swing City

    The legendary Grant Nelson has been djing/producing for some 20+ years, formerly a veteran in the days of Hardcore Grant moved on to set up the acclaimed Nice ‘N Ripe label back in 1993 with partnerGeorge Power, Grant had his fingers in every production. moving on into 1995 Grant set up his Swing City label which has been home to many a classic Garage cut featuring ‘Aquela Esquina’ By Negrocan, ‘Soul City Expeience’ By Grant Nelson & Brian Tappert (Soulfuric) and the awsome ‘Step 2 Me’ By Grant Nelson feat Jean McClain to name but a few.. Grants new soulful slab ‘Feel The Music’ on Swing City is currently causing a stir amoung the house fraternity.

    Phil Cheeseman • Essence Records

    One of the first music journalists in the UK to cover dance music back in the mid-eighties, Phil Cheeseman has been a constant figure on the dance scene ever since. From introducing the likes of Ten City, Marshall Jefferson and Todd Terry to readers of the then Record Mirror, Phil became a founding writer on DJ Magazine. Formerly at Strictly Rhythm Phil is now owner of the acclaimed label Essence Records, Essence debuted in May 2001 with releases by Dajae & Full Intention, DJ Pierre & Marshall Jefferson, Harrison Crump, Robert Owens and Full Intention & Shena. Phil is also the creative force behind the burgeoning Latin1/4 compilation series on the respected Obsessive imprint with his latest offering due out at the end of this month.
