DJ True explores his vast collection for a deeper than Deep Space set

all night….

DJ True plays “the kind of deep sounds that your soul longs for,

sounds that call from a distant time and place that you always knew

you loved but could never really put your finger on it.” – John

A student of the street, Brazilian-American DJ True grew up in our

beloved Barrio and was a first hand witness to most of New York’s

dance music revolutions since he was a toddler. From hanging at

local concerts by salsa legends Fania Allstars and Willie Colon to

venturing to formative hip hop parties with Grandmaster Flash to his

regular attendance at the Paradise Garage, DJ True shows equal

passion for samba, salsa, funk and break dancing.

For six years DJ True has hosted and produced Harlem Radio NYC-

FM’s “Deeper than Discoâ€? program which celebrates dance

classics. His dj career has placed him at the headline of two critically

lauded New York monthly parties: the pan-Latin-Yoruba-inspired-neo-

Brasilian fusion ALMA and the newly formed Flan. He has performed

aside Ron Trent, Joe Claussell, Little “Louie” Vega, Nickodemus,

Maracatu NY, NYC Capoeira, and Beat the Donkey at clubs such as

Joe’s Pub, Irving Plaza, Nublu, Blvd, SOB’s, Knitting Factory, Table 50

and Sullivan Room.
