Mark Briais – Testing Times ep

In this age of the download free-for-all frenzy, it
certainly is ‘Testing Times” in the world of digital and electronic music as we
know it. So very apt then is this, the title for the debut track from Mark Briais, the veteran Brisbane DJ with 20 years
exposure to electronic club music.

Mark is well known as one of Brisbane’s
most respected and influential DJs. During his time on the scene he has held
down residencies at all of Brisbane’s
major clubs and played at the biggest and best festivals to hit town. He also
spends a lot of time to help bring the music of the Junkbeats collective to
ears around the planet.

Testing Times… because you never know how things will turn out after the last
tweak and twist of a studio session. In this case, mixed at electricks in Byron Bay
with some additional production from Dave Basek,
the end product from Mark is a deep tech-houser in tune with the late night
grooves of Charles Webster or the Mountain People.

On the remix, north coast NSW resident Scott Hopkins
delivers a powerful prog version that is reminiscent of his remixes for Danny
Howells and Infusion. Subtle for starters, ultimately filling the room with an
immense bass line and grinding synth drops at the end of the eight-minute
expedition. Mastering by Melbourne’s
infamous ‘Jack the Bear’ guarantees
this to be one solid club track.
