Face in May
Birmingham’s favourite underground party (and inner city
beach going on the amount of sand they imported for the
VIVA party in April) is back once again in May with four
more killer events planned.
The first sees deep house heroine Maya Jane Coles
headline an all-nighter before Moon Harbour boss Mattias
Tanzmann rolls in a week later on May 14th. Yousef from
Circus and Paul Kaminski from Mono_Cult play on the 12st
May whilst German Oliver $ is the final guest of the month
on May 28th, adding his input to a soundtrack which,
already in May, includes some of the finest house and
techno around.

Although now on the tip of everyone’s tongue in the wake
of her organ-lead anthem, ‘What They Say’ on Real Tone,
Maya Jane Coles has actually been doing this a while. Still
only 23, she casually started producing in her mid teens,
whilst the first releases proper have come in the last two
years on Dogmatik and 1trax. Besides both a house and
tech bent, though, there is also dubstep in Coles’ arsenal,
with chilling cut “Can’t Hide the Way I Feel’ (released under
her Nocturnal Sunshine moniker) the proof she is to be
bound to no one niche in particular.
Her Hypercolour EP, Hummingbird (five tracks of variously
percussive, dancefloor, sultry and vocal house), killed it
earlier this year, with plenty more tracks and remixes also
causing waves. Maya is simply one of the hottest
prospects of 2011.

Matthias Tanzmann started his DJ and production career in
the mid nineties in Leipzig,
playing regularly at the renowned club ‘Distillery’. These
early days saw his first release as
‘Gamat 3000’ on Dessous Recordings, which was quickly
followed by releases on Freude Am Tanzen, Lo-Fi Stereo
and FM Musik. In 2000 he founded Moon Harbour
Recordings, and since then scores of Moon Harbour
releases have been play listed by renowned DJs all over
the world. The label rapidly became synonymous with
quality deep-house and tech-house, and has released
many of Matthias Tanzmann’s own records as well as those
from the likes of Luna City Express, Marlow, Martinez and
Dan Drastic.

In their multi-roomed party space The Rainbow, Face serve
up more tasty sounds courtesy of Liverpool hero and
Circus founder Yousef.
As well as being resident at, and founder of, Liverpool’
craziest house and techno party, Circus, Yousef is a skilled
producer who counts labels like Cocoon and Renaissanc
eregular homes, as well as places like Space Ibiza amongst
the highlights in his ever bulging DJ diary.
He is joined by Leeds man Paul Kaminski – founder and
house spinning resident of uber cool night Mono_Cult, as
well as Manchester spinner and Mood Music producer Ruthit
and Samu. L who closes out the line-up alongside residents
Elliot and Scott. This is a special party as part of the
Mustachio festivities so make sure you get involved…
Across its 3 rooms, FACE is now catering for pretty much
EVERYBODY and we’re well excited to be doing what we’re
doing. Hope you are too.

board. Great music in the Courtyard, the Cellar & the bar
