London based producers Filth and Splendour have put
together a tech house EP to blow your minds. The two
tracks ‘Hot Pick’ and ‘Knight rider’ equally showcase what
these two, relatively new DJs, are all about, and serves to
add another big release to their rapidly expanding string of
production efforts.
2009 has without doubt been the biggest year for this duo,
which started out with a series of hugely successful parties
for Itch Records at Brixton club Plan B. Held with their close
counterparts Club Natural, and booking the likes of
Deepgroove, James Harcourt and Defected’s Rae. Their DJ
residencies have also grown, from previously playing at
The Key, The Cross and The Egg, they’ve also continued
their long standing residency rocking Pure Pacha in London
on a monthly basis and delivering upfront cuts producing
deep, techy house sets and always keeping the crowds on
their toes.
Known for their eclecticism and ability for transforming
rooms by relentlessly reading the crowd, these two are
without doubt big room DJs at the top of their game. Most
recently they’ve put in stellar performances at London
nightclubs Koko, Lightbox and Matter to name a few! Their
production efforts have equally not fallen short delivering
over 28 well supported releases on their own label Itch
Records, Baroque, Bigger Dear and Born Dirty. Each
gaining support from big name DJs including Dubfire, Carl
Cox, Hybrid, Laidback Luke, Nic Fanciulli and Anil Chawla.
The boys were also seen producing an exclusive promo
mix for Total Kiss this year, which certainly captured the
essence of the live sound they portray at any gig.
Both ‘Hot Pick’ and ‘Knight rider’ are effectively big room
techno, with the first building throughout the 6 minutes and
gaining momentum at a rapid pace. At mid point ‘Hot Pick’
certainly doesn’t fall short with the odd interception of
spaced electric notes the kick is satisfyingly uplifting.
‘Knight rider’ is the longer of the two, lasting 8 minutes in
total, which in turn creates a far darker atmosphere. With
slightly lighter synths juxtaposed with the heavy drum beat
this track is not for the faint hearted, and serves as a clear
example as to why this pair fit excellently into big room DJ
sets. Filth and Splendour are indeed ones to watch for
2010.
