“1 Time Out of 9” was recorded by iconic left-of-center Chicago
House musician and producer Nathan Drew Larsen. Nathan got his
start DJing in the early ‘90s at loft parties in Chicago, where he also
happened to meet his long time partner in music Mazi (Audio Soul
Project). Nathan currently records exclusively for Fresh Meat
Records, the label he and Mazi own and operate. Over Nathan’s ten
years of recording, his music has appeared on NRK, 20:20 Vision,
Renaissance, Global Underground, and Airtight, among other labels.
A house revivalist long before it was fashionable, Nathan’s production
draws from many of the artistic traditions of Chicago’s early deep
house scene, however, his otherworldly music owes much to his use
of vintage instruments and effects, his focus on improvisation and
live performance, and the clear influence of disparate musical forms
including psychedelica, motoric and pop. Nathan has just finished
edits for Wiretappeur (Nils Nurnberg, Florian Kruse and Stel) and
Matthias Vogt (Motorcitysoul) and will mix and compile Volume II of
the “When Bad People Cook Good Food†album for Fresh Meat this
fall.
