QnA: Chris Lum – DJ/Producer/Remixer – San Francisco, USA

As BounceFM.Com continues its mission of telling the story of house music, one person at a time, we now go to the left coast to learn about Chris Lum, who along with a host of other San Franciscan’s helped put the West Coast house scene on the map. This is his story. Enjoy!

    DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE:

. . . I love to know that my (DJ) sets can send people home f*cking.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE SAN FRAN HOUSE SCENE WITH NEW YORK – HOW ARE THE SCENE SIMILAR?

We both have bridges and hobos.

WHAT FACTORS LED TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE SAN FRAN SCENE?

Influences brought here by an English contingent of DJ’s and party promoters bringing with them the experiences of the late 80’s dance/rave culture in the UK. In addition, the city had an abundance of available spaces, plenty of young people here for work and school, great drug supplies and a typically west coast attitude that lent itself perfectly to what was developing.

WHICH OF YOUR PREVIOUS PROJECTS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

. . . The theme song from the 80’s hit T.V show “Alf”.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED MATERIAL POSSESSION AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?

    My Tiesto Bobble Head Doll.

YOU HAVE JUST WON A FABULOUS WARDROBE FROM ANY DESIGNER YOU CHOOSE. WHO WOULD THAT BE?

    Kathy Lee Gifford’s K-mart collection.

WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE?

    Big.
