QnA: Tee Mallory – DJ – New Jersey

    < ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Today, BounceFM.Com goes deep to the hinterlands of New Jersey to chat with one of the pioneering Jerzee DJ’s, Tee Mallory. Tee’s developed his skills playing at the Mark IV Disco, Butchies Hard Core and more. This is Tee’s story. Enjoy!

TELL US ABOUT THE MARK IV DISCO – HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED?

Founded by Harold Edwards, Mark IV was a traveling group of djs that came to all of the parks, playgrounds, housing projects and nightclubs in Newark, NJ and the surrounding area in the 70’s and 80’s. Close friends of mine were involved and that led to me getting involved in the 80’s.

WHAT IS JERZEE HOUSE FOR THOSE THAT DON’T KNOW?

Back in the day Jersey was known for those church-inspired vocals over a slamming house track. “Let The Rain Come Down” comes to mind.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE JERZEE SCENE VS. THE NY HOUSE SCENE

    HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT

To me Jersey musically is more vocal oriented than New York.

WHAT IMPORTANT TRENDS DO YOU SEE IN OUR INDUSTRY?

These R&B artists getting dance mixes to their radio tunes can have a positive impact on the younger generation getting turned on to underground dance music, accepting and respecting it as they do hip-hop and R&B

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE COMING UP IN THE SCENE TODAY?

Decide what is your purpose for doing this.
