With a line up to drool over, the ‘LadyBugz Heavyweights Birthday

Party at East Village’ on Friday 14th August is going to be THE party

this summer and featuring a succession of the UK’s finest DJ’s &

Producers coming together to take to the decks at London’s infamous

East Village, this is a birthday party celebration of heavy weight

    proportions.

The night – a birthday celebration for Katie Barber and DJ Marcia

Carr and a follow up to the hugely successful Heavy Wieghts party in

January – is presented by ‘LadyBugz ’, the female contingent of the

Bugz In The Attic collective. Ladybugz are: Katie Barber, DJ Ms

Marcia Carr, T. Maronie and Miss Callis, with the flow provided by MC

Marshmello. They come fully charged with credentials to back up

their skills and knowledge, mixing up Broken Beats, Disco, Dub Step

and Detroit, it’s fair to say this veritable cinquette hits all the bass’

    every time.

The story of the stylus sistahood began in 2004 at Cherry Jam in

West London and continues to grow from strength to strength in 2009

and beyond. Ladybugz represent like-minded talented women doing

it for themselves and have featured guest appearances from some of

the finest females out there including Lyric L, Vanessa Freedman,

Eska, Lady Alma to name but a few.

A teen in the 80’s, Katie Barber trained as a dancer and along with

her brother’s punk and new romantic records and her mother’s blues

and soul collection, gave Katie her diverse and immersive musical

training. The late 80’s rare groove parties, a Balearic excursion to

Ibiza in ’89 and listening to the deep house sounds from Chicago,

New York garage and Detroit techno turned clubbing into an

obsession. With this grounding and some years of record collating

later, it was inevitable that Dj’ing would follow. It was in 1991 when

Katie’s DJ career kicked off and was cemented with a 7-year

residency that started out in 2001 with Phil Asher and Patrick Forge

at the legendary Inspiration Information back at The Notting Hill Arts

    Club.

Katie Barber has proven herself a DJ with calibre, having played at

the crème of music festivals including the Montreaux Jazz Festival, V,

The Electric Picnic and parties as far wide as Beirut. She’s also

established in London’s underground club scene, with appearances at

Faith, Need2Soul, Clandestino, Life&Soul, The Remedy, to name a

few. Over the years, Katie has taken to the decks alongside some of

the finest DJ’s and producers out there, including: Kerri Chandler, DJ

Deep, Jerome Sydenham, King Britt, DJ Spinna, Karizma, Afronaught,

Domu, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, Norman Jay, Stuart Patterson and

the The Idjut Boys, many of who have become very good friends.

Katie is calling on her musical friends to help her celebrate her

birthday in top musical style as Katie is expected to deliver her own

blend of quality house and broken vibes.

Joining her is fellow birthday girl Marcia Carr – the ‘girl with mad

game’ – will also be celebrating in musical style and laying down

some of the best house, rare grooves, soulful disco and jazzy

groves. Marcia manages her freelance PR work and clients have

included Phil Asher, Green Jade, Basement Boys, Peven Everett,

Souled, The Rebirth, Judah & Secret, Choklate and others, as well as

occasionally turning her hand to producing and remix work in the

studio. On the flip side, primarily Marcia Carr is your Dj’s Dj

dedicated to honing her craft for the cause from live sets to radio

which have featured on terrestrial and online channels including her

show on Gforceradio, Pushfm and Ministry Of Sound, alongside such

legendaries as Bob Sinclair, David Morales and Masters At Work.

Presently Marcia’s London residency ‘Playback’ now in its third year

continues its growth as a club night of choice for the discerning music

lover. For a long time her skills has lead her play with the cream of

the underground dance fraternity over the years. Names include

Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher, Ronnie Herel, Afronaut, Norman J, Jeremy

Newall, Ricky Morrison, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, Marc Mac, Seamus

Haji, Keb Darge, Kev Beadle, Teddy Douglas, Rachel Aubern, Cosmo,

Jazzie B, Rap Saunders, Fitzroy da Buzzboy, DJ Paulette, Bobby &

    Steve, Lottie and others.

Marcia Carr’s transition from jazz dancer to deck manipulator was

one of a natural progression. Spinning the platters that matter on

distinguish club floors, private parties and corporate events since the

mid ’80s, her alter ego Marcia Da Vinyl MC has graced the decks at

pedigree events including the Southport Weekender, Tru Skool

Cypher, IsItLIVE, Mind Fluid, Hed Kandi, Whistle Bump, Right Area,

Southport Sessions, HouseHuntin, Back II Basics, Ministry of Sound,

L’America, Club Shelter, Weekending, Peach, The Sattelite Club, the

list is endless. Regular guest spots also on the international scene

have included places such as Switzerland, Estonia, Finland, Norway,

Miami, Singapore and Sri Lanka. It’s no wonder then that her

diversity and knowledge perfectly illustrates exactly why she‘s very

    much in demand.

The party takes place on Friday 14th August at the popular ‘East

Village’ in Shoreditch, which delivers a big club experience, courtesy

of their state of the art EV Shuttlesound system, with a house party

    atmosphere.

The legendary Phil Asher aka Phlash and member of production outfit

Restless Soul with close an incredible catalogue of his own

productions will play on the night, serving up his own unique mix of

    killer house and broken beats.

Established producer and DJ Seiji, a prominent member of West

London’s broken beat scene will be returning to the decks after too

long an absence to help the girls’ party with a formidable set of off

    the hook beats.

    Colleen Murphy aka DJ Cosmo is known for her diverse sets;

encompassing her geographical and musical roots that find

themselves standing somewhere between the post-disco of New York

and the sharp-edge of London. The Label head of Bitches Brew

records and herself a consummate producer too, will drop a selection

of assorted goodness – expect something you’ve never heard before

    on a world wide scale.

Nice guy Afronaught (Orin Walters) and Soul Mates resident jock Rap

Saunders will also be on hand to keep the party grooving, laying

down quality beats with style and flair.

Andy Bird, known for his successful night SoulBrew, and Toni Rosano

one half of producers known as Blackbeard will display their in-depth

musical knowledge & expertise, as they join the team on the night,

playing everything from Hip-Hop & classic funk to Rare Groove and

    some big Disco bangers.

The line-up does not end there…the heavy weights on the night also

include music connoisseurs Cybersoul Music and Soul Brother records

advisor Johnny Reckless, Soul Heaven recording artist Bopstar, Fresh

Minute Music’s talented producer duo Souled and PushFM’s finest DJ

Bones, with the full Ladybugz crew.

The party will be open to music lovers in London from 9pm until 4am.

created at the last Ladybugz birthday party in January and the
