Hello everyone – here’s a heads up for what’s going on next Friday.
Friday March 3rd – JOURNEYS @ EGG, 10-6am – £12, £8 before
midnight
Room One: Marshall Jefferson, Jeremy Newall (SalSoul)
Room Two: James Priestley (secretsundaze), Pete Herbert (Reverso
68), Sasoto (Hear No Evil)
With Robert Owens on tour duty with Coldcut this month, another
Chicago legend steps into the breach. One of the original innovators
in house music, MARSHALL JEFFERSON is rightly labelled one of the
Godfathers of House and he produced some of the music’s most
influential tracks, most famously the classic ‘Move Your Body’. He
also helped record Phuture’s “Acid Tracks”, the first and greatest
acid-house single and masterminded the career of the Ten City,
coming up with hits like ‘Devotion’. It’s fair to say that Marshall’s had
a major influence in the development of house, garage and techno
and his DJ sets reflect this diversity. In recent years, he has returned
back to his first love, DJing and as one of the biggest DJs to come out
of Chicago, he’s played at every major club/event across Europe.
Alongside Marshall, one of London’s favourites, JEREMY NEWALL,
whose sets are a journey of depth, character and feeling, whether it
be on a trip into US house, digging deep into his extensive disco
collection or playing the latest hot white label. Look out for his
forthcoming release, in collaboration with Ron Trent and Robert
Owens.
Upstairs, Shoreditch takes over, with JAMES PRIESTLEY alongside
PETE HERBERT and SASOTO . James Priestley needs little
introduction, best known as the co-promoter and resident of the
infamous hedonism that is secretsundaze, All Over My Face and
Go!Zilla. His unique sets mix up cutting-edge electronic House with
Nu-Wave Acid-Disco and Electro, often throwing in an odd forgotten
classic. Joining James is Pete Herbert, one half of production outfit
Reverso 68 (Eskimo Recordings), guaranteed to get the floor moving
with his brand of balearic house and disco. Sasoto (Hear No Evil)
completes the trio – look out for his latest release on Hear No Evil,
which he describes as “clunky basement sounds on a detroit tip”.
