DJ AND MEDIA SUPPORT:
Nick Warren – Brilliant! Brilliant! Lambdalette is ace!
Q-Burns Abstract Message – Nathan Drew Larsen’s recent output is
making him one of my favorite electronic producers. This is excellent
stuff for sure. Lambdalette is a musically evolving masterpiece, really
wringing out all the melody and rhythm that can be found within the
groove. Fantastic!
Chris Duckenfield – Nice to hear something with a little more depth.
Good stuff to be had here; plumping for New Day but it’s all
wholesome goodness.
Satoshi Tomiie – Lambdalette is awesome!
John Selway – Appreciating the musicality.
Little Mike – Cool release. Absolutely different than 96% of the music
coming out lately. This is very light and somewhat joyful and will still
work perfectly in a dirty seedy night club at 7AM.
Also supported by Laurent Garnier, DJ Hell, Ivan Smagghe, Ludovic
Llorca (Art of Tones), Pete Dafeet, King Roc, FEX, Johnny Fiasco,
Alexander Maier, Tom Budden, Neil Quigley, MANDY, Shur-I-Kan and
Tuomas Salmela.
ABOUT “NEW DAY”
‘New Day’ is Nathan Drew Larsen’s fifth collection of original music for
Fresh Meat. As a Chicago native, Nathan’s music has always been
influenced by the city’s house tradition. In this latest installment,
Nathan’s emotional connection to Chicago is sublimely complicated by
his creative nature and post-house approach. The three songs
featured here have no real contemporary equivalent. Rejecting
minimalist fashion and nostalgic sycophants, each track on ‘New Day’
brims with playful melodies, meticulous chord progressions, unusual
arrangements, and fuzzy psychedelica.
Esoteric instruments and processes are Nathan’s raison d’être, but
that does not stop ‘Lambdalette,’ the EP’s opener, from killing the
club! On this groovy cut, a subsonic FM bass line and cracking RM-50
drums keep the momentum, while roaring analog synths and musical
tape echoes swirl and wash over the rhythm and bass.
The EP’s namesake ‘New Day in a New Home’ is a proto-futuristic
track that is light on its feet. Wet leads weave and modulate while a
Polaris bass line bounces, crisp snares snap frantically and an upfront
angular melody repeats like Laid Back riffs of yesteryear gone off
planet. The edit here is by Fresh Meat’s in house utilitarian Mazi
(Audio Soul Project), whose concise cut of the original sets-up the
track perfectly for a dance mix.
Marking the start of a romance between a boy and his TX218, the
angelic yet funky ‘Boys Choir’ rounds out Nathan’s new EP. Mid
ranged drums bang and crackle holding together a choral of sweet
children’s voices, unearthly pianos, delayed pads and insistent bass
jabs – not to mention FM rays, shooting stars and solar winds.
*The original version of ‘New Day in a New Home’ will be released in
’09 on the full length Fresh Meat album ‘When Bad People Cook Good
Food’
