Oreja
‘Manana Por La Manana’
Papa Records
PAPA017
Summery latin vibes are back as Paul ‘Seiji’ Dolby ’s Oreja project returns to Papa Records for the follow up to last years underground smash ‘Vazilando’. Paul, a key member of the cutting edge West London production collective Bugz In The Attic, once again teams up with Hector Calderon and George Rosario of Son El Batey fame to deliver another Puerto Rican house fiesta.
Last year when Paul first travelled to San Juan in Puerto Rico he found himself slap bang in the middle of the local San Sebastian festival. To his total amazement, the local crowd were out in there masses singing an array of traditional Puerto Rican Plena’s. Although that trip was became the recording inspiration for ‘Vazilando’ there was another song that stuck in his mind. Standing on the balcony of the Candela Bar (owned by friend and all round music lover Pablo Rodriguez), looking out at the carnival below the crowd were singing ‘Manana Por La Manana’, one of Puerto Rico’s most famous Plena’s.
A year later and Paul returned to Puerto Rico to record the song in his own Oreja style, capturing all the traditional raw spirit of the song and marrying it with his killer block party beats, resulting in the perfect carnival tune. ‘Manana Por La Manana’ features the emotive vocal and percussive talents of Hector Calderon, accompanied by George Rosario on guitar, as highlighted on the Acoustic mix. With Level Neville Malcolm on Bass and George Rosario & Anna Desedes taking care of the backing vocals, all the elements come together making ‘Manana Por La Manana’ a perfect colourful slice of Latin American infused dance.
