A term coined by KISS-FM DJ Norman Jay in 1985, originally referred to relatively obscure funk tracks from the 1970s.
The Mission for “Rarefied†the party
Our mission is to not only play obscure funk tracks from the 1970s, but
expand on the idea and play obscure music from various genres (Soul,
Rock, Jazz, Disco, etc.) Hopefully we will show how the genres
are unique yet unified. DJs Tomcat (Underground Railroad/Rare
Radio Show, WBAI 99.5 FM) and Uncle Steveo (Rare Grooves Sessions, WHPC
90.3 FM) will make magic on an audio canvas weekly. Guest DJ
Jeannie Hopper (Liquid Sound Lounge, WBAI 99.5 FM) is very familiar in
Rare Grooves and Soulful House will help us launch this party and keep
it funky.Starting Date is Wednesday, December 7, 2005 and is weekly thereafter.
Sutra Lounge: 16 1st avenue (between 1st and 2nd streets.) in the East Village section of Manhattan.
