STANFORD HALL ASYLUM WELCOMES YOU

100 years ago this October the old Madhouse was abandoned, and as a fitting tribute we bring you our own Night of the Crazies this Halloween… on the very same site!

The facility was initially admired for its successful treatment of the profoundly disturbed and was run by the pioneering brain surgeon Dr Claus Grunwalder – later to be known simply as Doctor Driller.

Legend tells of a labyrinth beneath the building where the basket-cases were kept. The most tragic of these was known simply as Grandma, and it was said that spending a minute in her presence would send a man insane. They say Grunwalder tried to break her and it was his downfall.

Grunwalder – now demented himself – built a true chamber of horrors, and one by one the patients were wheeled in to face their bloody fate. Quickly the Sanitarium disintegrated into chaos, eventually getting so out of control it was simply abandoned – walled off from society and left to devour itself; its inmates left to rot.

Some say that the patients are still there – and behind a walled-up section of this sprawling building the Doctor still goes about his unsavoury business. On dark Autumn nights, inhuman screams and pitiful wailing pleas can be heard – say locals, who shun the place to this day.

Perhaps they’re right. Perhaps there is a secret place – caught in a cruel loop of time – where lobotomised patients still stumble through crumbling wards; where rusty implements rest against freshly bloodied walls. Where Doctor Driller is waiting for you… with a smile.

Whatever the truth, as you explore the creepy corridors, if you do stumble upon this hidden wing full of monstrosities – and you want to leave with your sanity intact – please don’t go looking for Grandma…
