as i recently caught sandy rivera saying the stantons new release is
something he’d play in house clubs, thought this might interest some
of you folk outside the traditional breakbeat circles…
“it’ll have something for heads to get into, tunes for trendy kids,
moments for 9-5ers – not too much urban, not too much indie –
basically, a good block party mix. we’re very into the art of the party
mix.†– dom b
as has been mentioned already, stanton sessions vol2 is imminent.
the follow-up to the biggest selling breakbeat compilation ever will hit
the streets on october 17th, and it’s going to be bigger and better
than volume 1 in every respect.
the boys, not content to rest on their laurels, spent time thinking of
ways they could change the approach of the mix without
compromising their own inimitable stanton sound. this is why every
track on stanton sessions vol2 has been remixed, re-edited, re-
jiggled and even remade by the stantons themselves.
these versions will be nothing short of essential this year, with artists
including m.i.a., lcd soundsystem, global communication, gorillaz
(which will absolutely kill any dancefloor and should be available later
this year on parlophone), mylo, chicken lips and a guy called gerald
all going under the stanton scalpel. simply, it’s going to blow every
other breakbeat (and house and garage and electro and hip-hop)
comp around out of the water.
and there’s more…
stanton sessions volume 2 will come in a 2cd box set, packaged with
dom & mark’s ridiculously good, as-yet-untitled debut album.
“there are three strings to the album. there’s a hip hop angle, there’s
the way we put soulful, jabby vocals over breakbeat and there’s the
world of house. we’re just breaking off and doing our own thing.
we’ve got singers and rappers and instrumental moments and deep
house styles and a heavy stanton warriors feel.†– dom b
the stantons have never been scared of vocals, so as you’d probably
expect, the album is loaded with a great range of talent across all
sorts of genres. there’s the upcoming single ‘still here’ (previously
known as ‘when i wake’) with eska’s gorgeous soulful tones, diplo
favourite sandra melody rabble-rousing on ‘twist & shout’, the
reverend jesse jackson’s ranting over ‘hope time’, ‘slip away’, which
features tina gray and rodney p sounding every bit the riddim killa on
the frankly awesome ‘dip & get low’. this will be the only breakbeat
package you need this year.
finally then, as if all that hasn’t got you salivating, we come to the
vinyl… here is the upcoming release schedule for the samplers that
will accompany stanton sessions volume 2 – enjoy!
august 8th – sessions sampler 1 – ‘blue’/’still here’ feat eska
september – sessions sampler 2 – ‘hope time’/’the prisoner’
october – sessions sampler 3 – ‘dip & get low’ feat rodney p/deekline
& wizard remix
november – sessions sampler 4 – ‘who are the warriors’/tbc
