T.Kolai
‘Congo’ Feat. Fragile State mixes
Chillifunk
CF059
Currently riding the sweet waves of success with their debut album ‘Teak All Eye’ on Chillifunk Records the enchanting Washington duo T.Kolai return with another slab of blissed out heaven. Congo’ is the second release from the album and as with most of their recorded output pays homage to the country where the roots of today’s music started – the motherland, Africa.
T.Kolai aka Taha ‘T’ Elroubi and Nicolas ‘Kolai’ Laget first got together behind the decks at Washington DC’s premier deep house venue Club Andalu back in 2000 and have since had a string of successful releases on Ibadan, Chillifunk and on their own acclaimed label Vinylicious. So in-demand have their DJ and musicianship been that Taha and Nicholas recently performed to enthralled audiences at London’s Cargo and Notting Hill Arts Club.
‘Congo’ is a stunning dreamy Afro dance-tinged outing, harmonious and worldly, showered in lush african rhythms and beautiful vocal chants. As featured on their previous single ‘Exodus’ purveyors of chill, Fragile State aka Neil Cowley and Ben Mynott, whose debut album ‘The Facts & The Dreams’ on Bar De Lune caused quite a stir late last year, again take hold ofthe remix controls. Neil and Ben add a haunting and inspirational twist to ‘Congo’ with stripped beats and lush synth soundscapes. All in all a magiical slice of pure musical enlightenment.
T.Kolai’s work has been championed by David Mancuso from the infamous Loft, Danny Krivit, Dimitri from Paris, Timmy Regisford, Louie Vega, Francois K., Lofty & Dr. Bob Jones (East West Connection), Phil Asher, Jon Cutler, Jerome Sydenham, Joe Claussell, Tiefschwarz, Matthias Heilbronn, Frankie Valentine, Mike Chadwick, Bob Sinclar, Alex from Tokyo, Yosh*to @ Flower and have worked with Phil Asher on a project that is yet to be released and with Jerome Sydenham from NYC’s Ibadan Recordings.
‘Congo’ will be released on August 28th on Chillifunk Records.
