By now most everyone is familiar with the story of musical legend J
Dilla (Jay Dee / James Yancey). The prolific producer collaborated
with everyone from Eryka Badu and Common to Janet Jackson and
De La Soul to create some of the most remarkable beats ever heard.
He was just beginning to capitalize on his cult status when he sadly
passed at age 32 due to Lupus-related complications in February
2006.
Having organised 3 annual “J-Dilla Changed My Life†tribute nights
The Doctor’s Orders was proud to be approached by Nature Sounds
the label behind this latest project to arrange an event marking the
release of “Jay Stay Paid†the latest addition to the phenomenal
discography of the man many believe to the greatest Hip-Hop
producer of all time, much of which is already often heard at The
Doctor’s Orders. This 25 track collection of unreleased J-Dilla beats
mixed and arranged by Pete Rock and executively produced by
Dilla’s Mum Mrs “Ma Dukes†Yancey while mostly instrumental also
offers a few guests vocals from artists that Dilla worked with or
admired including Black Thought, MF DOOM, and M.O.P.
With room one dedicated exclusively to the sounds of J-Dilla, Room
two hosts producers all of whom can be considered a “King Of The
Beats†in their own rights as we honor this phenomenal talent in the
only way we know how, by partying all night!
ROOM 1: Jay Stay Paid
Manning the decks to pay their dues to the one and only J-Dilla are…
DJ House Shoes is Detroit’s Hip-Hop ambassador to the world & four-
time winner of Best Hip-Hop DJ in Detroit before moving to LA. A long
time friend and collaborator of Dilla’s he released the highly sought
after Jay Dee Unreleased in 1997 and Phat Kat’s Dedication to the
Suckers 12″ in 1999. Most recently he mixed and releases “King
James: Chapter 1: Verse 1†his dedicated tribute to Dilla. When it
come to spinning the great mans work none do it better than House
Shoes.
DJ Spin Doctor is firstly a massive fan of J-Dilla and as the driving
force behind The Doctor’s Orders is over the moon to be spreading
the good news of this latest release to both Dilla’s and The Doctor’s
Orders fans. As ever his set is sure to be a highlight of the night.
DJ Rags has been repping J-Dilla for as long as he has been spinning.
As one of the residents of London’s Livin’ Proof night he has
experienced first hand the effect his beats can have on an educated
dance-floor. Tonight he will be putting that experience to good effect
with his first set at The Doctor’s Orders.
ROOM 2: King of Beats
The Doctor’s Orders have hand picked some of their favorite
producers to do their thing!
Kidkanevil is a longtime friend & fan of The Doctor’s Orders having
passed through our doors on several occasions to take his place on
the dance-floor. Tonight though “One of the UK’s most Original
producers†(Hip-Hop Connection) is blessing us with a set of pretty
much whatever he likes upstairs on the first floor. His fan base that
includes the likes of DJ Shadow, DJ Vadim & pretty much everyone
that has heard his albums is sure to be swelled tonight once they
have heard his selection of Jazz, Dubstep, Hip-Hop and so much
more.
Jazz T is a DJ and producer who has worked with the likes Percee P,
Rodney P, Kashmere, Shabazz the Disciple, Souls of Mischief,
J Zone, as well as the cream of the UK’s MC’s. As a phenomenal
battle DJ, producer & club DJ we have been hoping to get him in to do
his thing for us for ages now and are pleased as we know our
dedicated audience will be once he hits the decks and they hit the
floor.
Blackbeard is one of the most creative remixers of recent years
who’s work has been heard rocking dance-floors around the world.
He joins us again to warm things up with a tasty selection of soulful
platters.
