One advantage of already being established as one of London’s
strongest promotions is the contacts with A-List DJs that have already
spun at The Doctor’s Orders events over the past 4+ years. In order
to establish their new monthly night in Brighton The Doctor’s Orders
are using this list to full effect and pulling out all the big guns.
Making the trip down from North London for this first party of 2010 is
the original funki dread, Soul II Soul’s legendary Jazzie B. With an
OBE, an Ivor Novello, 2 Grammys, the freedom of 5 US Cities and
6.8 Million album sales across 35 territories the only thing missing
from Jazzie’s CV is a knighthood. This is not bad going for a man who
started out life in the music industry as a tea boy. The spark behind
all this creativity was the Soul II Soul sound system that he
established with the aid of his older brothers that went on to create
one of the most legendary parties of all time at Covent Garden’s
Africa Centre and in tern the distinctive Soul sound of the UK in the
80’s. Never one to rest on his laurels Jazzie B is still as busy as ever
with residencies in London, sets at clubs & festivals around the world
and for one special January night with The Doctor’s Orders Brighton.
Joining him on his drive down from London is The Doctor’s Orders
resident and driving force Spin Doctor. Having become good friends
through their love of great music and the same football team they
have gone on to work together not only as DJs but also promoters
and have had the pleasure of spinning at each other’s birthdays.
Guaranteed to be on his A game as Spin always is when joined by his
friend and hero Jazzie B this is sure to be a night not to miss.
Warming things up is resident and The Doctor’s Orders man on the
ground Brighton’s own Rusty Ryan. With a great eye for the crowd
and an ear for the beats that make them move he is fast establishing
himself as a name on the Brighton bar and club scene and will be
doing his reputation only more good with his sets here at The
Doctor’s Orders.
